Sally Greenaway is an award winning composer-pianist hailing from Canberra. She is a post-graduate of the Royal College of Music and has earned herself the reputation of being a versatile and diverse musician. As a result is highly sought after as a musical director, jazz pianist, teacher and composer/arranger.
As a pianist, Greenaway has versed in both classical and jazz and has competed in numerous piano competitions and performed across Australia and overseas as both a chamber musician and jazz artist. During her time living in London her performances include featuring at the London Chopin Festival and giving a concert on Liberace’s rhinestone grand piano at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair. She is also very passionate about historic keyboard instruments and dabbles on the harpsichord, clavichord and historic pianos.
As a composer, Greenaway’s writing spans a wide assortment of styles and genres, including classical classical chamber works, jazz big band works, and film soundtracks. She has won numerous awards for her music and has released 5 CDs featuring her work, on the ABC Classics and Move Records labels. Recent commissions include the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Musica Viva.
Greenaway is well known in the Canberra music scene, having worked with many of Canberra’s music ensembles. She is regularly invited to give masterclasses and workshops and adjudicate competitions. She is currently Musical Director for ConneXion Big Band. She also lectures part-time at the Canberra Institute of Technology’s Music Industry Centre.
